Contrary to popular opinion, the Church is not awash with spare cash. The Church of England itself, whilst indeed owning a significant number of buildings, is a not for profit charitable organisation. On top of that, many of the buildings that it does own are either national monuments or worthless in terms of a resaleable value.
Take St James Daisy Hill for example. A grade II* listed building which is by far the largest single building in Daisy Hill. There is also significant land around it. Yet if the decision was taken to sell it, it would be very difficult because of St James listed status, and the practical reality that outside on all four sides of the church, are people buried in the ground.
